LG has launched its first British Android smartphone on T Mobile and Virgin Media and said it will be "the start of applications for everyone".
The LG InTouch Max GW620 should signal "the end of expensive and exclusive applications", according to sales and marketing director for the manufacturer, John Barton.
Mr Barton said the launch was symbolic and that a lot of people are unaware that the Android Market offers more than 20,000 applications.
He added that the "easy to download" apps selection is increasing each day and that 65 per cent are free.
The handset has a slide out qwerty keyboard and three-inch touchscreen as well as a five-megapixel camera and 3.5-inch headphone jack.
It comes with a social networking manager called Linkbook that allows users to go to a friend’s Facebook site from their own contact list.
The handset has auto face-tagging, which recognises a person’s face when a picture has been taken, allowing users to call or message them by touching the image.
LG announced earlier in the year that it plans to have around half of its smartphones released in 2010 powered by Android.
