An interesting article’s popped up on the BoyGeniusReport, today, about the hopefully-soon-to-be-announced Nokia 5800, formerly known as the ‘Tube’.
Yep, that’s right, the one that’s supposed to be Nokia’s iPhone-Killing mobile phone.
Allegedly, the Nokia 5800 is due to be coming to the UK sooner than anyone expected, with a release date of October 8th being bandied about. Now, that, right there, would be a cool thing, because this is one of those mobile phones, like the LG KC910 and the Sony Ericsson X1, that I’m gagging to get my hands on and have a play with. However, is it true? Is the Nokia 5800 really going to be available to buy next month?
Well, as much as I hate to say it, it seems doubtful to me. I have to agree with the BoyGeniusReport on this. Nokia have only just announced two new Nseries mobile phones (more on them another time), so it’s a bit close for them to be announcing and releasing the 5800 in time for the October 8th date. It’s not impossible, but it seems they’d be cutting it a bit fine.
On the other hand, it did have a guest cameo in The Dark Knight, implying they’ve got a mobile phone there, that’s nearly ready to go into production. Well, theoretically, anyway. Hopefully we’ll be hearing more soon, so keep your eyes peeled, and we’ll shout about it once we know more.
Oh, and if the Nokia 5800 does hit that release date in the UK, us Brits can feel smug about getting it before everyone else!
