HTC Leo - is it really the Touch HD2?Over the past few days, rumours have been popping up about the upcoming HTC Leo, and what name it might actually go on sale under. So far, the most prevalent possibility has been “Pro.Three”, but a new rumour’s appeared today, which may well cast doubt on that.

It may also make m’good buddy Matt happy, because according to MobileTechWorld, it may actually be the HTC Touch HD2…

If that rumour turns out to be true, then I know for a fact Matt will be a happy bunny, since previous rumours have said that the Touch HD2 would run on Android, and although Android is a brilliant OS, m’good buddy Matt, like me, prefers Windows Mobile. Which is good, because we already know the HTC Leo is running on Windows Mobile 6.5, and has the newest version of TouchFLO 3D on top.

The latest rumour does actually have a slightly more concrete basis in fact, as well, which does it make it seem a lot more plausible to me. Y’see, the “HD2″ part of the name was pulled out of the device itself, specifically by looking in the Bluetooth settings. In there, the phone’s Device ID is listed as “HD2″, so I have to admit, it does sound veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery feasible that the name will stick.

I hope so, anyway, because the Leo would be a fine successor to the throne. The original Touch HD is a beast (in a good way), but it doesn’t have as much of an edge over its siblings any more (what with phones like the HTC Touch Pro2 having the same specs, with only a marginally smaller screen).

The Leo, with its 4.3 inch screen and scarily fast Snapdragon CPU, would put the HD name right back at the top of the pile, where it belongs.

And it’ll run on Windows Mobile, which will make Matt, and me, happy…
