Intel says the future is mobile internet. We say we already know!

intel@cesAt the recent CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, computer giant Intel set out their vision for the future of computers, as reported by the BBC. Basically, their vision is simple. The future is mobile internet.

Erm, we already know that… I do, especially, since I’m composing this on my Sony Ericsson P1 (yes, I finally upgraded!), through da internet.

To be fair, however, they did go a lot further than that, talking about a worldwide blanket of wireless access, and location-aware devices being proactive, predictive and context-sensitive. Or, as Intel’s Paul Otellini puts is, “Instead of going to the internet, the internet comes to us.”

Ok, that’s a good vision, I’ll grant you, but the thing is… the very real things is… we already HAVE full internet access while we’re out and about. And not just on smartphones. I’m talking full-on, proper Mobile Broadband, with a USB Modem linked up to a laptop. No compromises, there, you get a whacking great screen on your laptop, you get a proper keyboard to type with, and you get proper broadband speeds, which ain’t to be sniffed at!

So, yes. It might not be as touchy-feely as Intel’s vision, but the fact is, with Mobile Broadband, the future is already here!
