Important Announcement: Spam email alert from Sony Ericsson

Sony Ericsson warn of a spam email being sent roundNews from the Unofficial SE Blog, now, about an important update Sony Ericsson have sent out, and as a public service, I’m repeating it here. Apparently, scammers are sending out spam and phishing emails, that they say come from Sony Ericsson, and saying that anyone who’s received the emails has won a sum of money.

Needless to say, you’re asked to confirm certain personal details, which will then put you right in line to have your identity stolen. Here’s the full press release from Sony Ericsson:

“Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications is aware that a series of unsolicited emails have been sent to members of the general public from an email address that appears to bear the name ‘Sony Ericsson’ and which tells that the recipient has won a sum of money in a competition and requests that certain personal data be confirmed. These unsolicited communications are not from Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications and are believed to be attempts to obtain personal data for fraudulent purposes. Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications wishes to take this opportunity to apologise to members of the general public for any inconvenience or confusion caused by these fraudulent emails.”

If you do receive this scam email, then don’t reply to it, but get in touch with Sony Ericsson themselves, as they’re investigating, and I hope they’re planning on meting out justice by way of a lump of wood with a nail in it.

That’s it, no phone talk, no trying to punt the C905, or anything like that. This has been an important public announcement, on behalf of Sony Ericsson.

Have you received this spam email? If so, let us know in the comments!
