Now here’s an intriguing rumour, from the pages of Reg Hardware, that’s sure to annoy m’good buddy Matt (the Matt who has the original Touch HD, and who loves Windows Mobile even more than me, that is). Apparently, there are some major changes in store for the HTC Touch HD 2 when it gets released, not least of which is the fact it’s rumoured that this time, it won’t be running on Windows Mobile.
Nope, word on the street has it that the HTC Touch HD 2 will, in fact, run on Android.
There’s some changes in store for the hardware, as well, as the processor is being upped from 528 to 628MHz, although the screen is said to be remaining the same, at 3.8 inches. There’s no word on what camera it’ll have, either, but if they downgrade it from the 5MP cam in the original HTC Touch HD, I’d be very surprised. So I reckon 5MP again.
Oh, and I’m going to put my prophetic hat on, and say that if it is indeed powered by Android, we won’t see the standard Android interface on there. Nope, I reckon, if the rumour’s true, that the Touch HD 2 will sport the same Sense UI you get in the HTC Hero, just like in the concept I’ve knocked up for the pic on this blog post. Because, let’s be honest here, why wouldn’t they? The Sense UI’s absolutely, stonkingly gorgeous. It’s so much nicer than the standard Android UI, so why wouldn’t they use it?
S’what I reckon, anyway.
So, if the rumour’s true, it’s a bit of an unorthodox decision (what with so much love being shown by them towards Windows Mobile 6.5), and I’m genuinely torn on whether I think it’s a good idea or not.
On the one hand, I do love Windows Mobile, probably a bit more than Android. But on the other hand, so does Matt (even more than me), and nobody does comedy fuming like him. Hence, I want it to be true, so I can see him do a comedic rant.
Still, we shall know for certain in the fullness of time…

You are right Mark, I am Indeed fuming like this.
Of course, while Google Android is of course brilliant (they are watching), I love this Phone and part of the reason is Windows Mobile.
Really hope they stay on Winmo, but we’ll have to see. Put my name down for a Pre if it moves to android …

Yep, Android is and absolutely brilliant OS on things like the HTC Hero, but like you, my own personal preference is for WinMo.
I reckon the HTC Leo (or whatever it ends up being called) will be the true successor to the Touch HD, anyway, what with the 4 inch screen and Snapdragon CPU…

Nope – Windows mobile… and a 4.3 inch screen AND a 1ghz processor. Wow!

I have used Windows Mobile for several models. It’s well-knows OS, but all the time something was missing for me.
When Android G1 came, then G2 – I have found several really fine things in that new platform.
And now, when Android 2.0 is announced – new horizon is laying before GSM manufacturers.
To my mind, Android – is a jump to the future.
And, both Motorola and HTC are doing really good thing while installing that new OS into their smartphones.
