The HTC Hero is very probably the best Android phone that’s ever been released. That’s the word from Android Community, anyway, and they should know, ‘cos the lucky goits have been sent one to play with, by HTC themselves.
Will not be jealous, will not be jealous, will not be jealous, will not be jealous…
So, as is the norm in these situations, they’ve shot an unboxing video, and given us a photo gallery to feast our eyes on. They’re saying they’ll have a full review up soon, but for now, their claim is that this is perhaps the best Android phone ever released. And even without playing with one myself, I have to agree with them. Just on specs alone, it runs rings round the two earlier models, the G1 and HTC Magic (and the Magic was a damn good phone, so the Hero should be gobsmacking). You get Android, and all the technical gubbins of the previous phones, but the camera’s been improved to 5 megapixels. So, it’s all good.
What I really like, though, is the interface. That HTC Sense UI is a stunner, without a shadow of a doubt. Essentially doing the same job on Android as TouchFlo does on Windows Mobile, the Sense UI is really something else. But hey, don’t take my word for it, check out their video of it in action:
Good, innit! SPB’s Mobile Shell interface is still my favourite interface, but the Sense UI is running a very close second.
Oh, and there’s one other thing about the HTC Hero that I’d better come out and say, right now. Everyone who’s seen the phone knows about this design feature, so I shouldn’t need to explain it. It has The Chin. Well some strange feeling has swept over me, and I reckon it must’ve altered my perceptions of reality.
I have fallen in love with The Chin. It’s a no-nonsense Chin. It’s a Chin you can believe in. It’s like the phone is modelled after John Wayne’s head.
The HTC Hero has, in fact, a Chin Of Doom.
In the words of Sarah Brightman, I lost my heart to a starship trooper chin of doom…
