In much-anticipated news this week, Google has finally unveiled some of the latest features of its latest software for mobile phones.

The search engine’s I/O Conference was the venue for the company to show off the newest version of its Android mobile phones application and according to cnet.co.uk, there were some interesting things on display.

It is reported that the integrated new Google Maps Street View feature was "elaborate" and that its touch-screen abilities are expected to compliment Apple’s iPhone well.

The article than noted that Android also displayed a "central notification service" that allows users to keep track of missed calls, e-mails and diary appointments as well as some new shortcuts and a built-in version of Pac-Man.

"Google hopes Android will become an open system on which users can install whatever software they want, though it’s not yet clear if phone service carriers will agree with that vision," the site concludes.

Demonstrations of the new system are currently circulating on a number of viral websites.
