Google has released the Android 2.2 update to all Nexus One phones.

The update, aka Froyo, has been in the pipeline for some time and may have been rushed along by the release of Apple’s iOS 4 and the iPhone 4 last week.

Google Nexus One owners will be able to get the Android 2.2 update over-the-air.

It’s expected the update will be rolled out to other smartphones such as the HTC Desire and HTC Wildfire within the coming weeks.

Android 2.2 promises to turn phones into Wi-Fi hotspots so items can be passed between phone and computers; faster connectivity; support Flash 10.1; and store and install apps with a MicroSD card.
