According to a story in Mobile Business Magazine, we might actually be getting a Google Gphone after all…
Allegedly, there will be an announcement next week, about a partnership between Google and another big name in the PC world, Dell. Obviously if it is true, it would be, best guess, a smartphone, running Android. However, I’m not so sure it’s time to get the Gphone-shaped welcome ready just yet, for several reasons:
1. Google say they have no announcements listed in their calendar as upcoming.
2. Why would they use Dell, when they have a massive range of handset makers at their disposal, as part of the Open Handset Alliance. And I’m talking big names, like Samsung and LG.
3. Dell’s history of PDA’s took a big wrong turn with their range of connected-PDA’s that sank without a trace.
Of course, on the other hand, both companies, if the rumour’s true, would be new players to the mobile phone industry, and what better way to make a massive stir than come swanning in, like you own the place (i.e./ “doing an iPhone”)
So, you never know… although I highly doubt it, there could be a tiny grain of truth in the story.
