Apple has been a big player in the trend towards consumer demand for fashionable gadgets, it has been suggested.

With mobile phones regularly featuring in a selection of styles and colours, the company behind the iPhone 3G has been praised by a spokeswoman for Stuff.tv for leading the charge in this area.

Linsey Fryatt, editor of the consumer technology website, said recent reports that consumers were focusing on such items instead of clothing to give them style was linked to Apple making fashionable technology more mainstream.

"So now you’ll get gadgets in obviously lots of different colours, also different looks and it’s just become much more important to people what they carry and what they’re seen with," she added.

Ms Fryatt’s comments follow a recent Microsoft study, which showed 43 per cent of people are more likely to spend their cash on gadgets rather than clothing in a bid to look more stylish.
