Vodafone users have been offered a new deal that could make using their mobile phones abroad cheaper.

The network said that as part of its Passport offering, up to 2.5 million of its customers could now travel to a host of European nations knowing they have access to better value calls, texts and picture messages.

For £4.99 per day, consumers can access the web with their handsets and utilise anything up to 25 MB of data. Lighter users will be charged on a per KB rate instead as long as within the 1 MB limit.

Vodafone noted this means sending or receiving a quick email while visiting an EU destination could cost people about 50p, adding its mobile broadband users can also expect a new pricing structure.

"Laptop users who want to use the internet when they are abroad […] will receive 50MB for £9.99," the network explained.

Mobile phones currently exclusive to the carrier include the HTC Magic, which is one of the few devices available in the UK that uses Google’s Android operating system.
