Ok, maybe not quite yet, but it’s going to happen, according to Dolby themselves in this story from Engadget Mobile!
Whenever I hear (haha, geddit?) about a story like this, my ears automatically prick up. What it amounts to id Dolby Mobile developing technology that will deliver the full-on Dolby experience to your mobile phone.
Surprisingly, there is precedent for that, because some phones in Japan already have Dolby built-in; I’m talking about the FOMA SH905i and FOMA SH905iTV, which I’ve never seen in the flesh, but given that they’re Japanese phones (which all tend to follow a very similar layout), they’ll be packed with features, but look bobbins.
Which brings us to the UK market. With the sheer number of music phones out there (think Nokia 5310) and many, many more on the horizon (Sony Ericsson W890i, anyone?), it immediately makes sense to develop what I shall call mobile-Dolby-coolio-sound-technology.
And that’s before we even get into Mobile TV, when it’s going to become more or less essential. That’s when you grab the SRS headphones, also mentioned in that story on Engadget Mobile.
The future may well be bright, but it seems like it’s also gonna be chuffin’ loud!
Mine will be the rock music that makes your ears bleed. And I’ll be doing this:
