Now, here’s an intriguing story for fans of all things Nokia, courtesy of The Boy Genius Report. We’re all familiar with Nokia’s Nseries by now, it’s been their top-end range of smartphones since 2005, and it’s currently home to the most powerful phone the Finnish manufacturer makes, the Nokia N97. And the Eseries takes the same Symbian OS, and sticks it in what are sold as business phones.
Well now, there’s two new product ranges to go with ‘em. The information comes from Nokia’s trademark database, where it turns out that they’ve trademarked two other names: Cseries and Xseries.
The question is, of course, exactly what phones will fit into each product range. BGR has guessed that the Cseries will be your average, bog-standard Nokia phones, y’know, the ones that currently have numbers for names, like the 6600, or whatever. I’m inclined to agree with that, because it makes logical sense to think that a phone range with the letter C, that feels like it’s less advanced in the alphabet (even though that whole idea makes no grammatical sense, but go with it), feels like it should contain entry-level and mid-range phones. I tell you what would be intriguing, though, and that’s if the Cseries is for lower spec phones, but includes phones with Symbian in.
Entry-level smartphones, in fact. That’d be intriguing to see.
And as for the Xseries, your guess is as good as mine, but I’m guessing high-enders, possibly higher than the Nseries. BGR reckons it could be the new product range that includes Nokia phones running their ‘Maemo’, Linux-based OS, which would be rather exciting, if that’s true.
Still, we’ll just have to wait and see, and in the meantime, try and work out what the letters in Nokia’s product names mean. We know ‘E’ stands for Enterprise, but as for ‘N’, I’m not sure, and I have even less clue with ‘C’ and ‘X’. so, let’s get guessing, and see what we can come up with…
