Blackberry Thunder – touchscreen mobile phone finally seen in action

Well, after seeing pics of it for some considerable time, video footage of the new Blackberry touchscreen mobile phone has finally hit the net, and we finally get to see it in action, according to Engadget Mobile. Here, have a look for yourselves (note, the Blackberry Thunder appears at about 2:55-ish, there are a couple of HTC and LG mobile phones before it):

First things, first. It’s pretty. As in really pretty. With only a couple of buttons on the front, and the rest taken up by what appears to be an even bigger screen than we expected, it really does looks sleek. Seriously, it’s one of those mobile phones that goes, “buy me, buy me.

Still, looks aren’t everything, as we all know. Mobile phones have to perform and be… well, you have to want to use them, instead of just gazing at them longingly, for them to be truly great mobile phones.

Ah.

In which case, it seems that there is problem with the Blackberry Thunder, disappointingly. You see, it’s famous for trying a new trick with haptic feedback, to make it feel like you’re pressing a clicky button, when you press the screen. It does that by having a screen that moves. Yes, you read that right, when you press on the screen, it moves backwards slightly, and clicks, like a real key, a first for mobile phones.

And that’s really rather clever…

Except it sounds like they haven’t implemented it properly yet, because apparently you have to press it with that much force, it makes the screen ripple.

However, and this is a big however… that’s something that can be picked before it gets unleashed upon the world of mobile phones. If Blackberry get it right before release, this could easily be one of the coolest new mobile phones to come along in a long while.

And if not, or if you don’t want a touchscreen mobile phone, then get yourself the Blackberry Bold 9000, instead!
