Blackberry Storm 2 – sneak peek video appears online

Blackberry Storm 2 appears on videoI quite like the original Blackberry Storm, despite it having a ‘clicky’ screen that, after typing out long emails, hurts your thumbs, because you have to press down so hard on it. Having played with a Blackberry Storm, I can kind of see what people mean about the screen; it does take a fair bit of pressure to click on it, although, I found I didn’t have to consciously press down as hard, because I’m what’s known as a heavy-handed, ham-fisted goit.

However, there’s a new version on the way (Blackberry Storm 2: Judgment Day, as I call it), and a new video’s popped up on Youtube, courtesy of Crackberry, that shows off an early build of the phone.

It would appear some major changes have been made inside the phone…

Y’see, with the first Blackberry Storm, its big innovation was that clicky screen. The screen itself could be pressed as one, huge button, which gave rise to a whole new way of browsing the phone. You touch the screen to move round menus, then press the screen on the icon you want, and it’s a system I dig, as it leads to a lot less accidental starting of apps you didn’t want to start. At heart, though, that clicky screen was simple in its construction. In effect, you pressed the screen, and it pressed down on a button underneath, that went kagonk.

Something much more interesting and high-tech is going on under the hood in the Blackberry Storm 2 (Judgment Day), however, because although it has a clicky screen again, it only has a clicky screen when the screen is turned on. When it’s powered down, the screen doesn’t move or click at all.

That’s very, very intriguing, not least because I can’t work out how in the name of Jeebus it does that! But don’t take my word for it, have a look for yourself:

See what I mean? Much intriguingness. As for the other specs of the Blackberry Storm 2, it’s got WiFi now, but other than that, I couldn’t give a monkey’s…

I’m just dying to know how that screen works…
