Research in Motion’s (RIM) Blackberry Curve 8520 is "incredibly approachable", according to the company.

The smartphone features a full-qwerty keyboard that means it is easy for users to access a wide-range of applications, RIM explained, adding another reason to the list of why people might find it a useful consideration for their next handset.

"A great navigation experience" is promised via the touch-sensitive trackpad, said to make scrolling straightforward while on the move.

The Curve 8520 is the first BlackBerry to have specific media keys that enhance the ability for owners to access video and music content.

Other features include a two megapixel camera with video recording and zoom capabilities as well as a 256MB flash memory with the option to add up to 16GB storage via the use of its hot swappable microSD/SDHC slot.

It also offers support for ten email accounts including online services such as Hotmail and Gmail.

The BlackBerry Curve 8520 is also available in a Vodafone contract free with a 24 month contract
