Those with the latest mobile phones may be excited to hear that one of the most eagerly-anticipated films of 2009 is to get a game tie-in.
Gameloft announced this week that it will be adapting James Cameron’s Avatar for portable platforms in time for its worldwide December release.
As the director’s first non-documentary cinematic work since Titanic – which scooped 11 Oscars at the 1998 Academy Awards – it would be fair to say the film is expected to be a hit.
However, Gameloft will now need to deliver the same level of quality to its mobile title, something which Gonzague de Vallois, senior vice-president at the developer, seems confident it will be able to do.
"With a riveting storyline and compelling characterisation, Avatar: the Mobile Game will raise the bar for the mobile game user experience," he explained.
Also this week, industry specialist Robin Boyar told gigaom that the level of innovation in the gaming market was likely to continue, with more titles being targeted towards female players.
