Here we go, last post on a Friday, and in the spirit of these things, it’s time for something that’s stupid. Pointless, even. However, it’s something that’s stupid, pointless, immeasurably awesome, and that actually, when you get right down to it, is pretty damn clever. And it’s something that’s running on a test device powered by an Nvidia Tegra, which you all know my feelings on (if not, it rocks).
It’s a game. And it uses augmented reality. And it’s got zombies in it. And Skittles. Seriously, this thing, called ARhrrr is mental and genius at the same time. Check it out:
I want a Tegra-powered phone just for that! Forget augmented reality being used for high purposes like finding out real world info by pointing the camera at something. I want to use augmented reality to murder the shambling undead. I’ve gone on at some length about augmented reality in the past, and I genuinely think it’s brilliant.
Someone needs to get this kind of AR brilliance out onto existing phones, stat. I’d suggest the Toshiba TG01, first off, since it’s got the biggest screen out there, and the fastest processor. Granted, it may not have a Tegra chipset, but the Snapdragon ain’t no slouch.
Mind you, ARhrrrr also shows off why I’m so jazzed about Tegra, as well. See how it rendered those 3D buildings 100% on the fly? See how quick and glitch-free it was tracking the renders when the guy moved the phone. That be raw power, that be.
So, my conclusion to both the exciting bits in this post, the AR and the Tegra (bearing in mind that our own news section says customers want the best tech they can get in their phones) is simply this:
Make it so.
Now.
Because I want to shoot mini-zombies on my coffee table, dammit!
