Ooh, now here’s something you don’t hear every day. In the true spirit of making absolutely everything open source, Symbian have opened up a new blog, called UI Brainstorm, where you, yes YOU, can make a contribution to what the future Symbian interface will be like.
So, now, all you naysayers, who reckon Symbian is backward and stuck in the 90′s (I won’t name names, but you know who you are): put your money where your mouth is, and prove you can come up with something better!
The idea is simplicity itself. You just email your UI ideas via the UI Brainstorm page (since it’s meant to be visual, you need to sketch ‘em out, obviously), they stick the best ones up, and hence, you actually have a chance to decide what Symbian looks like, and how it works, and what the vibe of the interface is. And since we all know how important the interface is (take a look at phones like the Palm Pre, or the LG Viewty Smart, which have rather spiffing UIs), it’s probably not far off the mark to say that you, yes, that’s right, YOU, could have an impact on how good Symbian phones are in future.
Am I excited?
Er, yes, just a bit.
