Two guys attempt texting world record, run up massive billAhhhh, I love stories where people have accidentally run up massive, massive phone bills, but this new one has an added dimension in that the people involved were actually trying to send thousands of text messages.

According to Yahoo News, the two friends from Pennsylvania, Nick Andes and Doug Klinger, decided to try and break the world record for the most number of texts sent in a month.

So, they did.

And between them, they sent 217,000 text messages in March, most of them saying things like ‘LOL’ and just ‘hi’, with lots of repeat messages. Now, that is a lot of texts, and it got to the point where Andes’ wife couldn’t actually ring him, because the phone was permanently tied up doing text messages. Ah, it was a good job the pair both had unlimited texting plans, right?

Ah. There’s the funny part. T-Mobile then charged them for every single text message. It’d be wrong to say that the bill dropped onto his doormat, since the delivery man actually delivered the bill in a box, it was so big. In fact, the grand total came to $26,000. Oh, and not only that, but the American wing of T-Mobile charged him an extra $27.55 for the box!

Ah-hahahahahahahaha!

It seems T-Mobile are investigating the charges, and have credited the guys’ accounts, so seems like no harm done, in the long run. Still, it was worth a giggle, I suppose.

However, the man from Guinness World Records hasn’t got back to them, so the irony is, they might not even have got the record!
