A couple of weeks ago, I ran a blog post about the INQ, and how they may well be doing an Android-powered ‘Spotify phone’. I said at the time that my big concern with a Spotify phone would be the tariff it’s on, since a music streaming service would, basically, eat your data allowance And so, I hoped that if such a phone ever got released, it would be able on a specific Spotify tariff, to save you having massive bills.
Well, it seems that Three has the same idea, according to our own news section, because they’ve announced plans to release the HTC Hero with, you guessed it, a dedicated Spotify package.
The dedicated Spotify package, which Three are said to be offering from next month, will come in at £35 per month, and will include 750 minutes, and unlimited texts, and the like. However, the big bit of news about the tariff is full access to the Spotify Premium service. That’s the best bit, because Three say you get your Premium subscription as a voucher in the box, with the HTC Hero. And that’s good, because that service normally costs £240!
Of course, Spotify also has that big social element to it, which is something Three always go mad for (and with good reason, since social networking does seem to be one of the biggest drivers for people buying smartphones in the history of, like, ever). Oh, and you get exclusive access to things like concert tickets and so on, just from being a member of Spotify.
So, all in all, in the patois of the world, I can see no actual downside. You get an ace looking, really powerful phone, and access to Spotify, and stuff like pre-releases and concert tickets before all the other peons.
Good times.
