One of the first things most people do when they get a new phone is personalise it. Y’know, new wallpaper, new ringtones, themes, that kind of thing. Well, according to Engadget Mobile, a company called Kent Displays has taken that idea a lot further, by making what they call the Reflex LCD Electronic Skin.
Or, in other words, your mobile phone can change colours like a chameleon. Check it out in action:
Ooh, that’s quite cool, that, and not just for personalising your phone. Imagine how useful it’d be if you could set it to change to a particular colour when your phone’s ringing. Or give each of your contacts a particular colour, so you know who’s ringing, just by seeing what colour your phone turns (like green for family, red for people you’re avoiding, etc).
Potentially rather cool, that.
As yet, Kent Displays haven’t actually made any announcement that they’re going to sell it to us consumers, and it looks like they’re trying to get manufacturing partners lined up. Just imagine something like a future Palm Pre, where you could make it glow bright orange (or even a tasteful colour).
Veeeeeeeeeery intriguing…

Reflex LCD Electronic Skins can be menu driven to reflect the status of the host device (e.g., incoming call, meeting reminder, low battery).

They can? Rock!
In that case, consider Reflex Skins upgraded to 11 on the awesomeness scale.
