T Mobile signs up Yahoo as their search engine of choice

web n walk mobile phoneAccording to a story on SMS Text News, network giant T Mobile have signed a lucrative deal with Yahoo, making Yahoo their new mobile search engine, and effectively snubbing Google.

The agreement begins next month, meaning that as of then, the search technology and logos on a T Mobile phone will switch across to Yahoo. But it doesn’t end there, because the two companies are working to bring Yahoo’s subsidiaries onto the network; things like Flickr, Yahoo Messenger, news and weather services. And if they do that, it’s a fair bet they’ll be worked into the web’n'walk plans, as well.

That’s going to make it really interesting if it also includes their mobile broadband packages, with their USB Modem, because it would effectively mean that if you use mobile broadband fro T Mobile on your laptop, your default search would become Yahoo, no Google.

Could this be just the thing Yahoo need to 1/ fend off the Microsoft takeover bid or 2/ raise their share price enough to get Microsoft to cough up more cash?

No word on how Google feel about it, but I would imagine “pretty pigged off” sums up their feelings…
