Woohoo! They’ve been getting leaked for months, but finally, the successors to the X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro have been officially unveiled. Yup, the Xperia Mini and the Xperia Mini Pro, the worst kept secrets since the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, have been unleashed.
Having wisely dropped the “X10″ bit of the name (seriously, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro had the most stupidly long name ever), the two new phones sit comfortably inside the overall Xperia brand, filling out the low to mid-range, while phones like the aforementioned Xperia Play, and the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, are representin’ the top-end.
And look, they’re sweeeeeeeeeeeet!
Y’see, I have a real soft spot for diddy little phones like these two, since I feel that not liking them would be akin to kicking a puppy. Brilliantly, Sony Ericsson have made sure that these two new phones, despite having considerably bigger screens, aren’t that much bigger, physically, than their predecessors, thus making the ‘Mini’ name still appropriate, while giving users more screen real estate (and 1GHz processors) to play with.
I call that a triumph. If they’d given them substantially bigger bodies than their predecessors, then I’d have gone a bit loopy, because… alright, I admit, when I first saw the X10 Mini, I fell in love. Yes, I know it was a completely irrational reaction, but I couldn’t help it; it wasn’t so much a phone as the last puppy in the shop, looking up at me with those big, sad, soulful eyes, and all you want to do is love it, and hug it, and squeeze it, and call it George…
Ahem. Yes. Anyway. It remains to be seen if these two new beasties have the same effect on me, so we shall have to cross everything and see what happens…
