Sony Ericsson Rachael UI video – is it genuine, and Kiki is an Xperia phone??

SE Rachael UI video - and Kiki is an Xperia phoneYou may remember that on Monday, I had a bit of a nerdgasm about the Sony Ericsson Rachael, purported to be the manufacturer’s first Android phone. Oh, and about the SE Kiki, as well, since it looks absurdly brilliant, in a weird, twisted kind of a way.

Well, some more info’s popped up on GSMArena… but oddly, it leads to even more questions than answers.

First up is the Sony Ericsson Rachael, and yes, if it’s genuine, this is Sony Ericsson’s first Android phone. It’s got a massive screen (rumoured to measure 4 inches), a massive 8MP camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack for listening to music, and a miniUSB plug for connecting it up to everything else.

That’s not why I’m excited, though.

No, the main reason I’m excited is because the Rachael is said to have a 1GHz Snapdragon processor in it. You know, the same one they use in the Toshiba TG01. The one that’s frighteningly powerful. That one. The other reason I’m excited is because a video’s leaked out, which is alleged to be the final interface the Sony Ericsson Rachael’s going to be running.

If it’s genuine, it’s really very nice.

Here, see for yourselves:

The question is, however, whether it’s genuine or not. I want it to be, I really do. But what’s making me scratch my head is the fact that the UI demo has David Wenham in it. He’s an actor. He was in Lord Of The Rings and 300. His nickname is Daisy. And he’s got, to the best of my knowledge, eff all to do with Sony Ericsson, unless they’ve signed him up to advertise the new phone and not told anyone. The fact that he’s even in there at all makes me go “er, er, er, er, what?” and thus question the video’s authenticity.

But I hope I’m wrong, because it really does look stunning.

On the same GSMArena article, there’s a few more pics of the SE Kiki, as well, and these have given me my second “whoa, wait, what?” moment of the day. Y’see, the back of the Kiki, a phone seemingly without a camera, or many features that I can work out, is emblazoned with an Xperia badge. Xperia as in SE’s top-end smartphone line. On a phone without a camera, and with a weird screen.

Something ain’t adding up, here.

However, when I remind myself that the Xperia range is all about ‘new user experiences’, then I suppose it’s possible that includes the see-through body of the phone, and the ‘screen’ being projected onto the kind of window thing that sits where the screen should be.

Whatever the case, I am officially INTRIGUED (that’s like intrigued, but with added determination, a bit like Mulder in the X-Files)…
