Samsung go uber-fashionable with the second Armani mobile phone

Samsung Armani Night EffectThe first Armani mobile phone was, I have to admit (despite my rational judgment), a bit nice. Compact, sleek, and pretty, and with the touch interface that went on to great things in the F480 Tocco. Well, it seems Samsung are at it again, teaming up with the Italian fashion house for a second mobile phone, according to Engadget Mobile.

Called the Samsung Armani Night Effect, they’ve swapped the high-tech touch interface of the first Samsung Armani, for something a bit more traditional.

So, what we’re getting this time is a distinctly old school candybar-form mobile phone, albeit in a sleekified body, with a glowing blue bit round the edge. Actually, if I’m honest, the glowing blue bit is kinda nice, even if the rest of the Samsung Armani Night Effect sort of reminds me of low-end Motorola mobile phones

Still, there’s no denying it has got a certain something to it, with Samsung crafting a sleek, what-looks-like-brushed-metal body. The problem with the design, though, is an odd one.

It’s the honking great Armani logo down the side, plastered down the side of it.

It’s huge, it glows like aircraft landing lights, and it sticks out like a sore thumb. That’s the problem, really; the Samsung Armani Night Effect does look quite nice apart from the logo, which just smacks of desperation, and screams, “Look at me, look at me, look at me, look at me, look at me, look at me!

One can only hope you can turn the lights under that logo off, because if you can, Samsung really have made a gorgeous little mobile phone, with some enticing features like HSDPA, and 3 megapixel camera.

Let’s be honest, though, you’re not going to buy the Samsung Armani Night Effect for its features or its specs. As with a range of other mobile phones (the LG Prada springs immediately to mind…), you’re most likely to buy it for its looks, and for that designer finish.

It’s just a shame that the designer, in this case, didn’t have a bit of restraint when it came to the logo…
