Right then, I’ve written about it before, but since it’s now appeared in the wild, it’s time to write about it again; yes folks, according to PocketDroid, the Panasonic Eluga has gone on sale. In Germany, that is. No, it’s not actually been released in the UK, yet, but we do know a rough date when it will be released over here.
Specifically, it’s due to hit these shores on April 24th. The question in my mind, though, is how well it’ll do when it’s up against some real heavy hitters, in terms of the HTC One X, and the soon to be announced (more on that later today, so stay tuned) Samsung Galaxy S III. I reckon those are the two most exciting phones currently available, so does the Panasonic Eluga stand a chance?
Well, let’s be honest, it’s not even in the same league as those two. But then, not much is, so that’s probably not a fair comparison. If we’re talking specs, the closest match to the Panasonic Eluga is the HTC Sensation XE, a phone whose specs are almost identical to this beastie. So, you’re looking at a 4.3 inch screen, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, and an 8MP camera.
So, in fact, the phone to compare it to is the HTC One S, which is like the next-gen version of the Sensation XE. How does the Panasonic stack up against that phone?
Well, it’s more comparable, granted, but the One S canes it on specs, ‘cos although its processor is also dual-core, it’s a next-gen Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor, and that means it’s guaranteed to be faster than the one in the Eluga. Hell, it even outclasses the quad-core HTC One X in some benchmark tests, so the Eluga really can’t beat it on specs.
Maybe it can beat it on price, though? That’s harder to answer, until we know for certain what deals this phone will turn up on, but I reckon it’d have to be substantially cheaper to make me want it more than HTC’s new baby.
So, basically, time will tell…
