Palm Pre successor gets a name – Palm Eos

Palm Eos - sequel to the Palm PreAfter the news yesterday that a blurry photo and absolutely no specs had been released onto the net of the successor to the Palm Pre, more news has popped up today, giving the Pre-sequel (can’t call it Pre-quel, that has entirely the wrong meaning) a name.

Yep, according to Engadget, the phone’s going to be called the Palm Eos.

Oh, and they got a better pic of it too. And it’s… well, it’s quite nice, actually. It does look rather pretty, I have to say, although the size of it seems to rule out it being a ‘Mini-Pre’. As you can see, though, it’s got a more or less the same keyboard, and that big silver nubbin. It’s also said to be running WebOS, although oddly, it doesn’t have the rounded screen-corners of the PalmPre.

Now for the specs…

First the size, and you’re looking at it being 111 x 55 x 10.6mm, meaning that it’s not really THAT ‘mini’, but crikey, is it bleedin’ thin! You’re also looking at 4Gb storage built in, implying it really is the baby brother to the Palm Pre (which has 8Gb). Alas, though, with it being the baby brother, you only get a 2 megapixel camera. Which isn’t brilliant.

Also, it might not actually be a genuine rumour, but hey!

If it is coming, then the GSM version is rumoured to be the first one off the production line, meaning there’s even the possibility it might be released over here before the Pre. Bizarre, no? Still, from the specs, you can tell it’s definitely aimed at a different market.

If it’s real, of course…
