Nokia will release 3 thin touchscreen phones in 2009?

Super thin Nokia touch phones on the way?An intriguing story’s popped up on TheStreet, today, saying that Nokia, relative latecomers to the modern touchscreen game, are planning on catching up in a big way. Sources have stated that we can expect to see 3 new thin touchscreen phones coming from the Finnish manufacturer this year.

Hmm, the Nokia N97 has got the smartphone angle tied up nicely, the 5800′s doing the music thing, so does this mean we’ll be seeing super-thin, touch-based, fashion phones from Nokia?

Well, it’s a bit early to say, but we should find out as early as this autumn, when it’s rumoured that the first of the 3 new touchphones will go on sale. Specs-wise, there is little information (and when I say little information, I mean absolutely bleedin’ no information), but it’s entirely possible we may see one of them with a massively uprated camera, to take on the Sony Ericsson Idou, which is due to be released, you guessed it, at about the same time.

That’s my theory, anyway…

The other news is that the trio of phones will be using haptic technology from a company called Immersion, designed to make touch typing on the screen of the phone a lot easier, by making it vibrate and bong about when you press the screen. Think Blackberry Storm, but without the aching fingers from having to press down so hard on the screen.

Whatever happens, though, it looks reasonably sure that the double-header of the N97 and 5800 will be joined by some new Nokia touchscreen phones by the end of the year…
