Nokia getting ready to release a 12MP camera phone?

Nokia planning a 12MP camera phone? We’re fast approaching the stage where even 8MP camera phones will be labelled as mid-range devices, and it’s 12MP phones like the Sony Ericsson Satio and the Samsung Pixon 12 that are heralding that change in the market. However, it’s notable that one of the key players, Nokia (the biggest name in mobile phones actually), hasn’t jumped on that bandwagon.

Or have they?

Well, according to BGR, they might have done, because there’s a spyshot doing the rounds which is purportedly the first Nokia 12MP phone. That’s it over there, in the pic on this post, the one with the carbon fibre battery cover. However, the question is, of course, whether it’s the genuine article or not.

Well I’m not so sure…

As BGR points out, there’s a distinct lack of badges round the lens, which is unusual for a Nokia camera phone. More telling for me, though, is the fact the lens is flush with the back of the phone, since one of the things a lot of Nokia camera phones have in common is a lens cover. I’m not sure about the carbon fibre, either, and the fact that you can see the grain of the back panel through the logo ain’t helping. Now, I have no doubt Nokia will release a 12MP camera phone at some point. I just don’t reckon this is it. And if it is, I will eat my own leg (cooked medium-rare, for preference).

So, what do I reckon it is? Honestly? If I had to pick a theory, I’d say Chinese clone. That’s the vibe I get from it.

But of course, I could be wrong, but I hope I’m not, because if I am, I imagine the meat on my leg is pretty stringy…
