Now, here’s a good story from The Register, which is just so sci-fi, I had to talk about it… Nokia’s R&D labs, in conjunction with Cambridge University, have announced a concept phone that they think will be the future of mobile phones.
Called the Morph (though not, unfortunately, in any way linked with the famous Tony Hart character from Vision On), it’s a 100% flexible bendy mobile phone, that users can modify the shape of, and mould it to whatever form factor suits them best, such as wrapping it round their wrist, or a super-thin (as in credit card thickness) music player, or even a normal mobile phone(!), as in the photo.
Think the T1000 liquid-metal-robot-dude out of Terminator II, if you made him turn into a mobile phone…
What makes it all possible is nanotechnology. You know, the darling of science-fiction shows everywhere, and something that, if we can get it right, promises to revolutionise how we do things, from medicine to electronics to, as it turns out, mobile phones.
A Nokia spokesperson also stated that as well as being completely flexible and stretchable, it would be possible to add in features like self-cleaning screens and see-through electronics. Which would, without a doubt, rock most assuredly.
Now, the downside… it won’t happen any time soon. Well, come on, nanotechnology is still just a pipe-dream to a lot of people, even though they think it will revolutionise the world. Even Nokia admit that any actual advancements made by this concept are unlikely to be seen on production phones for seven years.
So, no hopes of a super-bendy Nokia N82 just yet, then?
Oh, and of course, it will all be good until the day one of them goes haywire, becomes self-aware, and kills its owner.
Well, it happened in Westworld…
[EDIT: Oooh, we now have video footage of the concept. Check it out!
Ok, it's only a cartoon, but it's still pretty cool!]

For a phone that’s conceivably about 25 years away, I’d have to take a massive, MASSIVE guess, so I reckon it’ll cost 4 billion yen (since China will rule the world, by then, anyway).

IPhone 20 will be in stores before this phone.
