Music is big business, especially music downloads, with something like Apple iTunes proving to be a massive money-maker. And so it is with Nokia’s Comes With Music service, that’s soon to be seen on their biggest new phone, the Nokia 5800, and that lets you get unlimited tracks on your phone. Even then, though, there’s still one fly in the ointment that a fair few people have pointed out, with that Comes With Music service.
DRM. Digital Rights Management, a system supposedly designed to stop people pirating music, but that actually is a right royal pain in the bum for the normal music lover, whilst doing very, very little to actually stop people copying music.
However, that may be about to change, according to a story on Engadget Mobile, because Nokia are officially looking to make the tracks on Comes With Music DRM-free. Which’d mean being able to download them once and being able to put them on any of your music players, and not have to enter a new PC or phone if your current one goes all Pete Tong…
Plus, let’s be honest, with iTunes being pretty much all DRM-free, Nokia basically had to make this decision, otherwise iTunes, the big established name, will trounce them thoroughly.
Plus, with that aforementioned 5800 that’ll soon include CWM, imagine how good an offering that’s going to be!
