After it’s starring turn (all 5 seconds of it, yes I timed it…) in the new Batman film, the first ever Nokia touchscreen mobile phone is getting ever closer to be officially announced. As reported on the Boy Genius Report, we now have our first look at what appears to be an official press photo, from Nokia themselves.
Yep, the mobile phone known throughout its development as the Nokia Tube is nearly upon us. and as you can see… she looks rather pretty!
So, let’s have a recap of what you can expect from this little beastie.
First up is the glaringly obvious fact that it’s going to be a full touchscreen mobile phone, and it will, in fact, be the first Nokia phone running on their new S60 Touch interface. So, expect the power of Symbian, with all the touchy-feely-ness of mobile phones like the iPhone and its rivals. As for other specs, the Nokia 5800 is set to come with a 3.2 inch screen, displaying 16 million colours (and doubtless, lots of fingerprints), a 3 megapixel camera, HSDPA and WiFi, as well as GPS.
The big surprise, though, is what the Nokia 5800 isn’t, as in, it isn’t an Nseries mobile phone. It falls very squarely in the mid-range Xpress series, and not the top-end Nseries. Now, you may wonder why that is, but perhaps the expected launch date for this mobile phone may give some clues.
October 2nd.
The same day as Nokia officially launch their ‘Comes With Music’ service, where you get unlimited free tracks to download.
Can this be coincidence? I think not. I’d put money on it being a fairly safe bet that, as well as the Nokia 5310 Comes With Music conquering the low-end market for Christmas, this Nokia bad boy’s going to be after the music lovers who want a shiny, whizzy touchscreen mobile phone.
Now, just imagine what the next touchscreen Nokia mobile phone will be like, when they inevitably upgrade it into the Nseries…

Nokia 5800 is a awesome phone but it still doesnt have all the features as the N96. But it means the price of it will be a bit lesser.
