New version of TouchFLO 3D shown off in video form

One of the cool things about HTC’s Windows Mobile phones has always been their TouchFLO interface, that separate interface they stick on top of the underlying OS, that does a pretty bang-up job of more or less removing the need to actually interface directly with Windows Mobile (y’know, since lots of people complain about things like fiddly icons).

Well, there’s a new version coming soon, that’s going to be built into the upcoming HTC Leo, and now, there’s video footage of it in action:

Ooh, I’m liking the new app shortcuts on the front screen. That was one of my big complaints about TouchFLO, the fact you had to slide right across to the other side of that ribbon-y thing at the bottom, just to access your apps. It seems like HTC were paying attention, since you can now just flick upwards on the front screen to reveal ‘em.

Actually, what it looks like they’ve done is take some of the design elements on the Sense UI you get on the HTC Hero, and welded them into TouchFLO. That ain’t a bad thing, by any stretch of the imagination, since the Sense UI is pretty nice, really. Well, ok, in my eyes, it’s second only to SPB Mobile Shell (my favourite phone interface by a long way).

But do I think the new TouchFLO can beat Mobile Shell? That’s the big question. Alas for HTC, it’s an easy question to answer, because the answer’s no. Mobile Shell still rules. Put it this way, I know someone who’s got an HTC Touch Pro2. And that phone comes with TouchFLO built-in, so you don’t have to fiddle about trying to install third party software ROMs.

And what interface does he use?

I’ll give you a hint, it’s made by SPB, not HTC…
