Hands up anyone who remembers the ROKR E1… I’m guessing no-one, because it didn’t sell very many, which is a shame, because it came bundled with iTunes, and was Motorola’s first proper music phone.

Well, thanks to engadgetmobile, we now know there’s definitely going to be a new one, and my god, does it look nicer than the E1 did! Called the ROKR E8, it marks a massive step forward in Motorola’s music phone offerings. For a start, it has 2Gb flash memory built in, which is a rather nice thing to have in a music phone, as it saves mucking about with 700 memory cards.

But the big new development is its interface. Because it doesn’t have a keypad. At all.

Instead, it has 2 screens, similar to the LG Venus, with the lower one acting as a touch-sensitive control screen. But here, we also get haptic feedback as a physical hint that we’ve actually touched the screen.

Basically, it looks really, really nice, and hey, at least it’s not another V3 clone!
