Okay, I guess we now know who Motorola’s target audience is for the Droid (or the Motorola Milestone, as it will most likely be called over here). Men, that’s who. Big cigar-chomping, hard-punching men. One merely has to take a look at their advertising campaign; after their first advert, which included stealth bombers and explosions for no good reason, a second advert has appeared online, and it’s almost enough to make one’s testosterone levels jump to massive highs, making you run round shouting “Hulk Smash”, before nutting a wall down.
Seriously, have a look:
Awesome…
I really likes that advert, I does. I think we’re all that used to seeing ‘nice’ phone adverts, with things like spacehoppers in Barcelona and a slightly disconcerting woman telling us her phone reads her mind, before rolling her finger across it and going “bing”. Mobile phone ads tend to be fairly non-gender specific, so seeing one so aggressively manly is quite a cool thing. I can only think of one woman who’d dig these adverts as much as I do; that woman out of the film Aliens. No, not Ripley, the other one. Vasquez. With the massive Gatling cannon thing mounted on a rig round her chest. That woman.
You won’t find the woman from the Palm Pre ad within thirty miles of the Droid commercial, I’ll tell ya that much. Well, alright, you might, but she’ll only be the token love interest, in a kind of 80s-action-movie way.
So, in short, this advert is John Rambo. And it is awesome.
Are you swayed by the robotic awesomeness of the Droid ad campaign? Is this the smartphone for real men? Leave us a comment and have your say!
