Mobile World Congress starts next week!

lg-kf510-THYes, I’m rather excited about this… The Mobile World Congress is the biggest event in the mobile world, and it’s traditionally where the big name manufacturers unveil their really big hitters. Courtesy of Mobile Gazette, let’s have a look at some of the things we can expect. (And I’m not saying I have played with these phones. I may very well, however, be saying that I might have played with some of them, nudge, nudge, wink, wink, know what I mean?)

So, what can we expect?

Nokia

A new N-series phone is rumoured (ludicrously high-spec, with GPS, HSDPA, 8 GB of memory and an FM transmitter), along with the world’s first glimpse of the Nokia S60 Touch device, a touchscreen series 60 phone. Which will rock.

LG

We’re on safer ground here, as LG have already announced, ahead of the Congress, what one of their main phones will be, the LG KF510 TH (pictured). Basically, think LG Shine, with a new, shiny, touchpad interface, and you’ll not be far off. Oh, and speaking of touchpads, it’s very, very, very heavily rumoured (ie/ come on, we all know it’s going to happen…), that we’ll be getting the LG Venus. Since we already have the Venus on site, take it as read it’ll happen.

Samsung

Samsung have been keeping schtum about what new stuff is going to be coming out, but a rumour has come out that they’ll be unveiling the Samsung G810. Imagine a G800, with Symbian, and GPS. The other one we know about is what has been variously called the Samsung MiCoach, and the F110, produced in conjunction with Adidas. I also get the feeling (one of those gut feelings, this), that we’ll see a new U-series phone, since the last one we had was the U700. You just watch them “do an Aston Martin”, and miss out the 8. Ten quid says it’ll be called the Samsung U900. And if they’re gonna make a slim slider, I say go the whole hog put a 5MP cam in it. They’d be daft not to!

Sony Ericsson

I know for a fact that Sony Ericsson have a big announcement for this year’s congress, with some brand new hero handsets on their way. I know this, because they damn well wouldn’t tell me what they’re going to announce, when I saw them yesterday! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. However, the smart money is on the P5i (or P3i, or whatever they finally decide to call it), along with the W980i, and maybe a Symbian Cyber-Shot phone (or a Cyber-Shot phone with optical zoom. Either way, I’m excited).

Others

Google Android. First prototype. Will rock. Nuff said.

What are you excited about or hoping for? Leave us a comment and have your say!
