Something jaw-droppingly awful, now, thanks to a story from Gizmodo. And it’s called the Givori Serendipity phone.
Or, to you and me, either a Nokia 8800 Arte or a Nokia N76 (since both can be customised). Now, I’m not against jazzing up your phone. If you feel inclined to stick sequins and glitter on it with a Pritt Stick, you go right ahead.
However, don’t do it to phones that already look gorgeous (thereby making them look about as appealing as pond scum), then charge £1,550 for the privilege! I mean, quite apart from the fact that adding sticky out bits, and cog wheels, and buttons makes the phone look like it’s got acne, how much, exactly, do sequins cost?
Apparently, the decoration of the phones uses original 30′s and 40′s Czech gemstones, and each lovingly handcrafted phone (well, handcrafted by kids gluing seashells to it, seemingly) comes with a luxury chocolates.
It’s a limited edition (limited to 50 handsets, apparently), but in this one case, I don’t think that’ a bad thing. I mean what’s the point in getting a Nokia 8800 Arte, a really sexy mobile phone with stainless steel body, then making it look like it fell in pot pourri. Week-old pot pourri at that…
I’m sure people will say, “Oh but it’s exclusive, it’s not for the likes of us normal people, it’s for the super-rich.”
And I agree, which just goes to show the market it’s aimed at have more money than sense… And personally, I’d rather ram a Nokia 8800 Arte up each nostril…
Agree with Technical Markus, and think it’s ugly? Disagree, and think it looks ace? Or have you seen an even uglier phone? Whatever the case, leave us a comment and have your say!

Hmmm I got myself the serendipity phone 2 days ago, came home and my bro was like EWWW, but last night I was at a wedding party literally bombarded with girls dying to know where to get it one too! I know at least 2 of my friends have already got one too. This is truly a product that only women can appreciate, you don’t have to love it for yourself but if you want to score high on Valentine’s day this will definitely do it. The chocolates were YUM by the way!

Good post, Belle, thanks for dropping by. This is the kind of interaction I want, people actually intelligently debating the issues in the story!
And as for the Serendipity… fair play, if you like it, that’s cool. So, you got one of the limited run of 50? Despite what I think of the phone, that’s pretty awesome…
