App Users surf the web more on phone than on PCAn interesting news story’s popped up on IntoMobile, showing the results of a survey run by mobile app company, GetJar. According to their survey, 70% of people who use Mobile Apps prefer to surf the web on their phone rather than on their PC.

That’s some statistic, that is. Can’t see the appeal of it, myself, since I’m one of the 30% of regular app users who doesn’t…

However, the survey also brought up a few interesting titbits of info about how the online times might be a-changing. To quote GetJar:

“Natural gaps in their day are now being filled with mobile app usage – 43% of those surveyed do so either when travelling on public transport, at night before going to sleep (17%) or just when they are doing nothing else in particular (14%). Mobile social networking is becoming an increasingly important way for mobile users to keep in touch, with 30% stating that they now use their mobile more for social networking – via applications such as Nimbuzz, eBuddy and Mig33 – than they do for voice calls. This trend is reflected in the popularity of email and messaging apps which are the first choice for 25% of app users, ahead of games (24%) and music (15%).”

So, it seems that not only are people spending much more time online using their phones, but a sizeable proportion are using it for things like social networking. This fits in nicely with my ‘people will do anything to avoid doing work’ theory that I’ve been applying to my life since, ooh, birth…

Of course, if you’ve got an iPhone, or you plan on getting the HTC Magic (both have app stores and loads of finger friendly games and social gizmos), those phones are practically designed to be perfect for mucking about…

Oh, and I’d be willing to bet the T-Mobile G1 had as big an effect on those figures as the iPhone did…

Do you use your phone more than your PC for getting online? Leave us a comment and have your say!

I struggle to beleive that statistic of 70% at this point in time, but it is certainly the future of the internet…

I currently do most of my internet browsing at home on my HTPC’s 42′ LCD, but this is about to change…

Sitting at home wasting time on the internet has become a real unhealthy activity, and I plan to use my time better, allowing internet usage on the go, so that time at home can be used for other things, such as work around the house, exercise or socialising.

Thus, I am waiting o the release of the Nokia N97, then I am ditching my home internet all together and signing up for a internet plan with my mobile operator Vodafone.

Fair play to ya, dude! :)

Personally, I like the unhealthy activity bit, but that’s been my mantra for 31 years, so why change now, eh? lol
