I got some info through on my developers newsfeeds this morning, and it’s one of those “I must tell people about this” stories.
Basically, it looks like we now know what our first “Googlephone” is going to look like. Apparently, this is remarkably similar to the device used to demonstrate Android to development partners. The smart money’s on it being an HTC device.
One of the things that is apparently quite clear about Android is how fast it is. Because it’s based around Linux, and the code for it is really light, it goes like the clappers, as opposed to Windows Mobile (or, at least, the earlier versions, that were frighteningly complex, and slow as you like).
Wanna see how fast? here you go, have a looky-look at Android in action, on this phone, and a second, full-touchscreen device:
Dear god, that’s fast!! Yep, I’m reckoning Android is going to be a major player in the mobile phone world in the not-too distant future. So, what with iPhones using OS X, a promised new version of Windows Mobile, and Android (and let’s not forget the new versions of Symbian that Nokia and Sony Ericsson are working on), the world of phones is getting shaken up in a big way next year.
