iPhone spotted running… Windows 95???

On the one hand, you’ve got people who use and like Macs, and on the other, you’ve got people who use and like Windows, and it’s usually a case of never the twain shall meet. However, some enterprising people have brought the two together, and I have to titter at the possibility Apple lovers are up in arms about someone ‘tainting’ their beloved Apple hardware.

Yep, they’ve put Windows on an iPhone. To add even more humour into the situation, they’ve gone for the wonder of Windows 95, a 14-year-old OS that wasn’t even that great to begin with. And here’s the video to prove it, with Windows 95 running on both a Mac emulator and the iPhone itself.

Ok, I’ll concede I can see absolutely no useful applications of this hack at all, ever. Windows 95 clearly runs like a dog on the iPhone (it was never that great on a PC), and it takes about 5-10 minutes to actually boot up, making it useless for anything other than a demo of what’s possible, but the giggle factor alone, of seeing an iPhone running a Microsoft OS, is worth it.

The team behind this hack say their next plan is to try running Windows XP on an iPhone 3GS, since that phone’s got much faster internal hardware. So, we shall have to see how well it runs.

Not very, would be my guess…

What other operating systems would you like to see on the iPhone? Amiga OS? Commodore 64? Speccy? Leave us a comment and have your say!
