I’m a Windows Mobile convert, as well you should know by now. But specifically, I’m a convert to ‘Windows Mobile phones that have touchscreens’; you know, phones like the Toshiba TG01, or, of course, the X1 that I got myself. However, I’m well aware that a lot of people don’t like touchscreens, and apparently, HTC have realised the same thing.
Ok, granted, you could say they already knew that, what with the HTC S740, and all that, but not everyone likes side-slider phones, either…
So, today has seen the unveiling of a new HTC that has more than a passing hint of the Blackberry form factor about it, according to Engadget Mobile. Called the HTC Snap, it comes across very much like a mating betwixt the Nokia E71 (that our very own Wee Gary has), the Blackberry Bold and the HTC Touch HD (in the general shape, not because it has a touchscreen).
I have to admit, it looks rather pretty, and the specs ain’t half bad, too. You get Windows Mobile 6.1, a nice, fast processor, HSDPA and GPS. The only let-down is the camera, coming in at 2 megapixels, but since the camera isn’t why most people will buy the HTC Snap, that shouldn’t be an issue.
No, what most people will buy it for is email. Up till now, the undisputed king of mobile email has been the Blackberry. It doesn’t matter which Blackberry phone, because I mean all of them, but for the sake of argument, let’s say the Blackberry Bold (since it’s not a million miles away from the Snap, in terms of looks). However, Windows Mobile is also pretty damn good at emails and it’s with email that you get the HTC Snap’s killer feature, a little software gizmo called Inner Circle.
Basically, you set up who your most important contacts are, and then once you go into your inbox, just hit the Inner Circle button, and it prioritises any emails from those more important contacts. If you’ve got a busy inbox, then Inner Circle is going to be a lifesaver, as you’ll always know you’re getting the most important emails right at the top of your inbox.
There’s no date on when it will go on sale, yet, but since I want to have a play with it, rest assured, I will be keeping my eye out!
