Now, here’s an intriguing story that tells us absolutely nothing about what a bunch of new phones will be like. Well, except for the fact that we know what their names will be. According to The Boy Genius Report, a trademark application from HTC has leaked online, and it gives the names of five new HTC phones that are due to hit stores in the presumably not-too-distant future.

And in true ‘getting overexcited about nothing’ style, the names tell us absolutely nothing about the phones themselves…

As for the names themselves, the ones that have been leaked are Vigor, Dawn, Imagio, Interlude and Tattoo. So, should we try and make some educated (and some possibly completely stupid) guesses as to what the phones could be like?

There’s very little point, but what the hell! First up, I can pretty much guarantee one of those phones is only for the American market. Can you guess which one? Go on, it’s easy, it’s the one that’s spelt wrong.

Yes, I mean the Vigor. Ten quid says that’s going on sale in the ol’ US of A, where it’s well known they have an allergy to the letter ‘U’, and not in Blighty. As for the others; not a clue what they’ll be like. I got nothing. Nada. Not a bean, old chap. Well, ok, Imagio could signify some kind of high-end camera phone. Or maybe Tattoo will have a garishly loud casing with graffiti on it. Who knows?

However, if other rumours are correct, about HTC using Android a lot more, we could well see a combination of Android and WinMo phones in those five names. I wouldn’t mind betting that there’s a successor to the HTC Hero in there somewhere, although I’d prefer that to have a more superhero-ish name, something like HTC Captain Wow (note: this is probably why I’m not in charge of naming phones for a phone manufacturer).

Nevertheless, as soon as details emerge, I shall be shouting about it, so keep ‘em peeled, folks!

Although, alas, you probably shouldn’t expect the HTC Captain Wow to appear any time soon…
