Ahhhhhhhhhh, it’s Friday, and you know what that means. Yup, it’s time for some more complete inanity (and by that, I mean it’s more inane than the normal inanity I write on this blog). Today’s weirdness is to do with touchscreens, specifically capacitive touchscreens. As we should all know by now, capacitive screens are the ones you can’t use a stylus on, because they use the electrostatic field on your fingertip.
However, HTC are working on a stylus for their HTC HD2. You just need something more like a fingertip than a traditional resistive stylus.
And so, we move to what geniuses in South Korea have started doing, according to Engadget Mobile. Y’see, in cold weather, the problem with capacitive screens is that they’re a pain in the botty to use if you’ve got gloves on. So, you need some kind of dibber to prod the screen with. And since capacitive styluses are few and far between, those crazy cats in Korea have improvised.
With sausages. Yep. Sausages.
This isn’t an isolated incident, either; sales of the particular sausage in question, made by the CJ Corporation, have apparently gone through the roof. It seems that the electrostatic charge on a CJ sausage is the same as on a human finger, y’see, which means you can use it as a stylus. A meat stylus. Made of meat. Which you can eat, as well, thus giving it even more of an edge over traditional styluses. I tell ya, though, I’d love to know what went through the mind of the Korean dude who first came up with this idea, since I can’t honestly think of any situation which would make me rub a sausage on my phone’s screen.
Still, at least now we can legitimately use the phrase ‘meat stylus’ when talking about mobile phones, although sniggering will ensue…
