As you’ll know, if you’ve been reading this blog over the last couple of weeks, I’m getting all excited over a new Motorola phone that’s been announced over in America, called the Droid. You’ll also know that I was annoyed that there was no word of it coming to Britain, and also, that I was quite prepared to beg Motorola to make it happen…
I would appear, according to The Register, that you’ll all be spared the sight of me acting like a five year old, because the Droid is indeed headed over to Europe. Only it’ll be called, apparently, the Milestone.
And, in a nice twist, it’ll be nicer than the version the Americans are getting.
Now, I should point out that this is the European-spec Motorola Milestone, and it’s not yet been officially announced for the UK. Yet, anyway. But I hope it isn’t too much longer.
However this is the GSM version, so this’ll be, basically, the phone we get. And the bit that we get, and that the American version apparently doesn’t? Multi-touch. The ol’ pinch-to-zoom type gesture control thingie. The quintessentially English part of me is straining to shout “Ha! Serves you right for getting the Palm Pre first!” But I shall be good, and stop myself from saying it, mainly because America has more guns than us, and real talent for doing something called friendly fire…
So, yes, good times indeed. That is, of course, assuming we get the Motorola Milestone in the not too distant future. At the minute, it’s only been announced for Germany and Italy, here’s hoping we’re next. ‘Cos I want to play with one. ‘Cos it looks all sleek and luvverly. And it’ll look belting on shelves, alongside the Motorola DEXT.
Also, I couldn’t help but giggle when I saw our news section had run a story about the Droid, in which they say that the Droid will have to beat the sales figures of the RAZR. And why did I giggle?
Because they said it was the milestone the Droid would have to beat. ‘Cos, y’know, our version’s called the Milestone.
Look, I never said it would be funny to anyone other than me…
