Drowning in bling – the ever-so-slightly extravagant LG KC560 rocks onto the scene

LG KC560 - blingiest mobile phone ever?LG have made some really sweet looking mobile phones over the past year and a bit. The Viewty, the Secret, the LG Renoir… they could all be described as “dead sleek” and “ooh, look, aren’t they pretty”. But, as many people know, there’s a fine line between looking cool and looking absurd.

According to Engadget Mobile, LG may have just crossed that line with their new mobile phone, the LG KC560.

We’ve seen plenty of mobile phones that have tried to stand out from the pack, with varying degrees of success, from ultra-sleek phones that really did look rather good, to mobile phones that should, for the sake of public sanity, never see the light of day.

And then, there’s the LG KC560, a mobile phone that looks like it was forged by a massive disco explosion in a Bee Gees video…

To be fair to it (well, I might as well try and be objective for a change), it does have a reasonably classy looking design, with sleek, smooth lines, and given that it’s an LG mobile phone, it’ll be nice to use, as well. You get a 3 megapixel camera, which isn’t the best on the market, but ain’t bad, either. Could be better, could be worse.

However, on the downside, things don’t look so rosy. The nav-key on the front there is blingier than John Travolta’s medallion, and I half expect, upon seeing the phone opened, to see a big, curly chest wig on the keypad. Combine that with the throbbing led lights distributed lovingly about the phone’s body, glowing, pulsing lights that’re destined to make your pocket light up like the final scene in Close Encounters.

Never mind calls, there’ll be planes using this mobile phone as landing lights!

All of that wouldn’t matter so much if it was aimed at low-end users, but the word on the street’s saying the LG KC560 will come in at about £230, which is a bit dear for what is, essentially, a glitter ball with an earpiece. Still, if that’s your thing, feel free, but as for me, I’d prefer a mobile phone that actually does something besides make my pocket glow blue…
