Now this looks like it could be intriguing… A challenge has been raised by the Nokia Conversations forum, in the form of The 1100 Club.
“The what?” I hear you say…
Essentially, the challenge is this: can you ditch your smart, high-end, uber-powerful mobile phones for a month, and go back to using a bog standard, common or garden mobile phone, like the Nokia 2610, or the Nokia 1100, (after which the club’s named)?
Hmmmmmmmm, now that’s a challenge and a half in this day and age! Or, at least you’d think so, but according to Nokia, figures indicate that there are over two-and-a-half billion mobile phones being happily used in the world, that are low-end handsets, and not used for anything more than calling and texting. So, do we really need top-end mobile phones?
Well, it seems like Nokia are going to find out.
And you know what?
So am I!
As of tonight, when I get home, my Sony Ericsson P1 is going in the drawer, and the sim card going into the most low-end handset I can think of. I’m not kidding around here, so any modern phones are right off the list. Nope, I’m going to be using my old Ericsson T28, a phone so old it doesn’t have the Sony bit at the beginning! We’ll see how long I manage before I go back to the good stuff, again!
So, is anyone out there willing to take the challenge with me? Anyone willing to put their big, clever mobile phones on ice, and try a month of low-end nothing-but-calls-and-texts?
Well, then, leave us a comment below, to let us know how you get on, and if you need a low-end, but really sweet mobile phone, check out the Nokia 2610! It’s groovy!

And thus, much time was wasted.

Worst bit is, I didn’t even make it a week…
