Okay, I’ll concede, this is a rather novel concept. You’ve heard of how loads of people are recycling old phones? And you know how, er, cash machines exist? Well, imagine a sort of combination between the two, ‘cos that’s the basic idea of EcoATM…
So, basically, it’s just like recycling your phone online, only you don’t have to wait for them send you out an envelope to post the phone in, then wait for them to value it, before sending you a cheque. Nope, with EcoATM, it does it all right there in the terminal, and gives you cold, hard cash for yer old phone.
As it said in the video, their database includes over 4,000 phones, so I’d expect it to have newer phones like the HTC Sensation, as well as possibly the really old, like the Nokia 3210 (yeah, retrotastic, baby). I rather like the way it does everything for you, and values the phone, and I have to say, I do also like the fact it gives you instant cash, there and then.
What I don’t like is having to leave your driving licence pressed on the front, ‘cos anyone could walk up and pinch it. I also have questions about how it swaps the connector plug out for different models of phone, ‘cos I haven’t worked out how it did that. Maybe they’re all in a sliding row, or something?
Anyway, yes. Instant cash for yer old mobile phone. In America, anyway; we shall have to see if it ever makes it over to Blighty…
