Behold the Brolly – the umbrella that frees up yer thumb for texting

Do ye remember how, about a year ago, I did a post about the Booster Brolly, the umbrella that you could use to charge yer phone, and at the same time, it had high gain antennas in the canopy to improve your phone’s battery life? Well now, there’s a completely unrelated Brolly, that’s again designed with phones in mind…

Yeah, basically, its unique innovation is its handle, ‘cos it’s got fingerholes in it, which isn’t quite as advanced as the Booster Brolly, really, is it? I reckon it’s a lot less useful, too…

Now sure, the fingerholes in it do make it so you can text using both hands on your big fancy smartphone (and with big phones like the Samsung Galaxy S4 becoming the new norm, you kinda do need two hands to text on ‘em). That is a bit useful, I suppose, but even with increasing phone sizes, is it really 100% necessary to text with both hands? And is it necessary to text someone right that second, even when it’s slinging it down?

Besides, with waterproof phones like the Sony Xperia Z becoming more commonplace (hopefully), who needs a brolly to protect them?

Yes, I know you use the brolly to protect yourselves…

Now then, if it’d had the same high gain antennas and built-in battery, then it would’ve been pretty much perfect. Without those two things, though, I’m having trouble seeing why there’s a need for the Brolly; I can’t help but feel that it’s designed to fix a problem that doesn’t really exist much, in the real world. Although on the plus side, it is pretty cheap, I suppose, so that’s always a good thing.

If you can get one for the price of a normal umbrella, though, then yeah, I have to admit that I can’t see why you wouldn’t buy one, if only because the handle looks a bit like a knuckleduster…

About TechnicalMarkus

It's a little known fact Technical Markus has now beaten both his Transformers addiction AND his Mass Effect addiction, by replacing both with an equally obsessive addiction to XCOM: Enemy Unknown and buying Humble Bundles for his Android phone. At the moment, he's pondering the actual usefulness of smartwatches and smart glasses, even if the nerd in him is shouting for joy at how sci-fi they are. He spends his spare time being whinged at to figure out what's wrong with other people's mobile phones, and drinking unimaginable quantities of tea. With milk. And three sweeteners, thanks for asking. Oh, and he's got an HTC One X, but he reckons his next phone might be a Sony, the turncoat...
